The life and times...

Well, I was born on October 6, 1974 in Rockledge, Florida. I lived in Titusville for 17 years graduating from Titusville High School in 1992. For those who aren't familiar with that fair city, it's right next to Kennedy Space Center. One of the highlights of growing up there was that I was fortunate enough to see the first 50 shuttle launches. To see a map of Titusville click here. I then went to Auburn University to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering; and to learn about the world and whatnot. I graduated magna cum laude in March of 1997. Then I went to Georgia Tech; apparently overcome by noxious fumes or something I went for my Master's in Computer Science. I graduated from there in December of 1998 (sorry, no pictures yet) feeling accomplished, but very beat. Incredibly sick of school I headed off into the real world (staying in Atlanta). My first job was miserable - a company called 3rd Millennium. A small team of us were relocated to a head Bank office, stuffed in a few cubes amidst the stuffy overdressed banker types who tended to look down on us programmers, and told to code. Not to mention my boss was a moron who had no clue how to work with people. Absolute worst job of my life, bagging groceries is a more satisfying memory. =) 9 months later I moved on to Z-Tel. This was a MUCH better place to work - nice people, satisfying work, it's 2 miles from my house, I get to play racquetball for lunch, it was a sweet deal. However I had to witness this place go through the .com plunges, losing many of our talented people, our benefits, etc. But I've been employed there for 3 years and going, things are looking up again, so who knows what the future holds! The stock options, my resume and the next job offer will guide my fate. =)

So why do you ask am I living in Atlanta, yet my web page is in Auburn? Well, I worked for the College of Veterinary Medicine Computer Group for about 4 years while I was a student at Auburn . I did fun things at work like database maintenance and development (yippeeee!!), some system administration, and webmaster stuff. Other than that I did computer PC and server fix-it odds and ends. Anyway I'm fortunate enough to still know some people there in the Computer Group, and they are kind enough to let me keep this web page.

I guess to round out the work story, I should describe a little about GA Tech. There I worked in the EOEML division of GTRI (the research institute at GT). I did some work on a missile simulation project, very cool stuff, and then more system administration type work.

Other than the 8-5 part of my life, over the couple years I've picked up some new hobbies. I started mountain biking in July 2000, and by January 2001 I was trying my luck at duathlons, then by May multiday adventure races. I find myself spending a lot of time biking, running, paddling, swimming, etc. in preparation for these events. My biggest race thus far was a 4-day, Expedition BVI.
